Happy New Year reader!
Well, I have been neglecting this blog since January 2022, haven't I? You could make a very reasonable argument that it was only ever fitfully started anyway, but it would definitely have to be conceded that it was also totally abandoned. However, that doesn’t mean that there haven’t been developments on the Rose Cottage front. You will see from comparing my January 2022 post that the roof has been replaced over the ground floor at the rear, and that a Velux window has been added, and the last wooden window in the cottage replaced with a plastic window. I know that some will be horrified by a upvc window in a stone cottage, but all my windows have the ‘trickle’ vents in them, which I keep open. I’ve never had any moisture problems arising, and they do make the cottage a lot warmer. In my experience, damp issues come from not using lime mortar, and not through plastic windows. (The cottage isn’t in a conservation area or listed).
I’ve set myself the (maybe ambitious) goal of finishing my cottage restoration by the end of 2024. This will include the resurfacing of the yard that was mooted in the January 2022 post.
The garden side of the cottage has been a bit neglected, but I won’t post any photos of that until I’ve had a dry weekend to sort it out. I can then at least have the dignity of being able to post some ‘after’ shots to the rather forlorn ‘before’ pictures.
Right, 2024 bring it on!
